You’ve decompressed from day 1 at SXSW Interactive and now our IRO friends are looking for a light recovery session. No dice. As a company that believe in Social Media for Investor Relations, and we can’t pass up this opportunity to find out more about changing investor demographics. Saturday starts off with a great meetup and then a healthy dose of Social Media for the oldies. If you haven’t had a great night’s sleep (you won’t be alone), maybe best to just stay in bed rather than hob nobbing before noon. But if you can roll off the right side of the bed, you’ll find some great sessions on Saturday, March 8th.
Below, you’ll find a quick list of the events and sessions your friendly neighborhood IR Smartt reps are attending. Come grab us for a quick on-the-spot interview for our Instagram and YouTube channels.

This is one of the most relevant sessions of the weekend for investor relations professional in Austin. Just checkout the first line of the event info ‘if you find yourself saying, “That’s great, but I don’t work at a startup,” then you’ll want to join this unique meetup that brings together those of us who work at large enterprises, government organizations and the agencies we partner with. Being Social with Grandma: Social Media for 50+
9:30AM – 10:30AM
Can’t stomach talking to people on a Saturday morning? No stress. Kick back and enjoy this very relevant presentation by Aldea Douglas and Andres Castillo which is sure to have a tonne of content about how investor demographics are changing. Unlike investors (sho are getting younger) social media use is growing fastest in the 50+ demographic. That’s big news for all of you out there who keep telling us ‘our Investors don’t use Social Media’. Nonsense. But Social Media strategy aimed at older generations is a slightly different mustard. We’re keen to see what the trends are here so we can make recommendations to our clients on their content strategies.
The Original Gangsters of Crowdfunding
12:30PM – 1:30PM
Investor Relations and Crowdfunding are obviously not the same thing, but there’s been a lot of talk about Crowdfunding since the passage of the JOBS act. This session is primarily focused on non-profits and community organizing but the concepts could be very applicable for IROs seeking advice or online groups of Investors.
B Corporation Meetup
3:30PM – 4:30PM
Sustainability reporting is the first step towards public companies focusing less on the financial bottom line and more on the social impact of their organizations. B Corporations might be the way business is heading in the future. This concept might be 10-15 years from the mainstream (or less, we’ll see) but knowing in advance can’t hurt. Checkout the video below and find out ‘What is a B Corp?’.
Here’s A Secret: We Need Anonymous Social Networks
5:00PM – 6:00PM
We did an interview last week with the CEO of Estimize talking about the necessity of keeping your identity private within their platform. This session will provide an inside look at the extent to which anonymous Social Networks are used online. Keep in mind that while companies like Stockr are committed to having real people, others like SeekingAlpha are not as concerned with a user’s identity. This session should be enlightening for anyone with an interest in online branding strategy. Sites like Estimize are a great indication of investor demographics changing online with students increasingly becoming the market’s youngest active participants.
Mobile Means Business: Learn How to Get Ahead
5:00PM – 6:00PM
– What are the best practices for developing a mobile strategy?
– How does an organization embrace and spread mobile-first thinking?
– How does a company go from executing mobile efforts to building a mobile business?
– do you need a mobile investor relations app?
Good questions. The answers should be pretty darn acceptable too.
The SXSW Comedy Opening Party Presented by NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers
10:30PM – 1:30AM
Comedy, yeah! ‘It’s the first night of SXSW Comedy, and we’re kicking our week off with a party presented by NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers.’ It’ll be a true sign of a change in your personal demographic profile if you’re not there.
